How to find a Maryland property-tax bill

Use SDAT to identify the property, then use the correct local tax office to find the bill.

Assessment and billing answer different questions

SDAT’s Real Property Data Search provides assessment and property-record information. Local governments handle property-tax billing and collection. A value displayed by SDAT is not a tax payoff or a current amount due.

Follow the property, not just the mailing address

  1. Confirm the county or Baltimore City jurisdiction and account identifier in SDAT.
  2. Open that jurisdiction’s official tax search. Enter the account identifier or address as instructed.
  3. Review the bill year, payment status, credits and additional charges.
  4. Check whether municipal taxes or other assessments appear as separate lines or separate accounts.

Buying or selling?

A seller’s current bill may include credits that do not continue for a new owner. Escrow estimates and closing prorations may differ from the account balance displayed today. Share the current bill with your lender and settlement team, and ask the tax office about any missing or disputed payment.
